In a recent announcement, Google declared that it will update both Google Maps and Google Earth. The modifications will follow the presidential proclamation by President Trump, who renamed Mount McKinley as Denali, in accordance with Alaska’s native people.

The adjustments will apply to U.S. users and will not impact other countries or users globally. Notably, President Trump’s decision has raised some controversy.

Under the new updates, the Gulf of Mexico will now be listed as the Gulf of Mexico will now be identified as the “Gulf of America,” while Denali in Alaska will be reverted to “Mount McKinley.”

As per the statement, Google Maps and Google Earth updates in the U.S. will reflect these changes. However, users in other countries will continue to see both names on the online map platforms. According to the report, President Donald Trump initiated the changes during his inauguration, and the federal government has since been implementing his directive.

The naming of Denali had already stirred debate, as the Obama administration had officially recognized and renamed it as Denali in 2015. It remains to be seen how the public and other organizations will react to these changes.
