Meta to Focus on Meta smart glasses

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has announced plans to expand sales of its “smart glasses” in 2025. The company’s CEO has confirmed that it expects to sell 2 million units this year and has set a target of 5 million units.

Until now, it was expected that Meta’s smart glasses sales would exceed 1 million units a year. However, the company has officially confirmed this and has set a target of 2 million units for this year. The annual sales of Meta’s Ray Ban smart glasses are estimated to be at least $329 million.

The company has recently appointed Javier Olivan, the chief operating officer of “Reality Labs,” which makes smart glasses and mixed reality headset quests, to oversee the expansion of its smart glasses business. Meta’s smart glasses are on sale in the U.S. for $329 each.

The company has also announced plans to advertise its smart glasses featuring actors Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt in the Marvel movies at the Super Bowl in New Orleans on February 9. Meta Smart Glasses is a product made by Meta and EsiloLuxottica, a company specializing in eyewear.

The smart glasses market is expected to compete in earnest, with Samsung Electronics, Google, and Apple planning to release their own smart glasses. Google recently acquired Taiwanese company HTC’s XR hardware division for $250 million.

Meta’s smart glasses are part of a long-term partnership with EsiloLuxottica, and the two companies are looking at acquiring a 5% stake in Meta EssilorLuxottica.
