Safer Internet Day 2025 is being observed worldwide, with a primary focus on promoting online safety, especially for young people. The event emphasizes creating a safe online environment and encourages positive interactions.

Each year, the day highlights a different theme. In the U.K., the focus is on protecting individuals from online scams, under the theme “Too good to be true?”. The U.S. theme is centered on empowering youth and influencing online safety policies. These varying themes reflect the evolving nature of technology and the ongoing need for investment in online safety measures.

Safer Internet Day originated in 2004 as part of the EU SafeBorders project. It has since expanded to numerous countries, including the U.S.

Key messages in the U.K. focus on online scams. These advise caution with offers that seem too good to be true, urge individuals not to share personal information online. They warn that not everyone online is trustworthy. Finally they advise against clicking on suspicious links, including phishing attempts.

Global events are taking place, ConnectSafely. Is hosting sessions with key stakeholders, in Sacramento and it will also be available for online viewing. It is coordinating U.S. activities in line with worldwide celebrations.

The Sacramento forum will cover various subjects, such as school phone policies, AI in education, social media age verification, parental controls, and regulations regarding AI and online scams. California Superintendent of Public Education, Tony Thurmon is schauled to speak, along with participation from state assembly members and executives from major technology companies.
