Google I/O 2025 Gemini and Material 3 Expressive
Technology company Google is expanding its Gemini artificial intelligence model across several of its key platforms. The integration will bring Gemini to Wear OS, Google TV, Android Auto, and Android XR. This follows the earlier replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini on some devices.
On Google TV, users will be able to use Gemini to ask for specific content recommendations. This includes requesting movies that are suitable for children based on their age. The system will also provide relevant videos when answering general questions.
Android Auto is set to receive a significant upgrade with Gemini integration. The AI is intended to function as a more intuitive assistant for drivers. It will handle both simple commands and more complex requests.
Separately, an upcoming update for Wear OS, version 6, will bring enhanced customization options through a feature called Material 3 Expressive. This will allow users to change the color of the entire user interface on their smartwatches. The design changes aim to improve user interaction by redesigning elements such as buttons and notifications to better fit the display.
The Material 3 Expressive design system is also being introduced in Android 16 for mobile phones. These updates focus on making devices more personal and improving interaction elements, including UI animations and buttons, while building upon the existing Material You design principles.
These developments were previewed ahead of a major annual technology event.
