Samsung plans big battery upgrade for Galaxy S26

Samsung is reportedly developing new battery technology for its future smartphones. The focus is said to be on a material referred to as SUS CAN.

This new material is intended to increase battery capacity. This development could result in future phone models, such as the Galaxy S26, featuring significantly larger batteries.

Reports indicate that SUS CAN is a stainless steel material under development by Samsung SDI. The goals for this technology include boosting energy density and improving charging speeds for Galaxy phones.

The material change is also expected to help reduce battery swelling, which could potentially increase the lifespan of the battery.

There were earlier reports suggesting Samsung was exploring silicon-carbon batteries, but the current information points toward this new material as the potential direction for battery upgrades.

Battery technology, particularly charging speeds, in Samsung’s recent high-end models has seen limited change over the past few years. This reported development suggests a potential shift towards more substantial improvements.

Some speculation has suggested future battery capacities could reach between 6,000mAh and 7,000mAh, although details regarding specific charging speeds are not currently available. The new battery technology could begin appearing in the Galaxy S26 series next year.
