Taobao Malaysia Launches 618 Sale with New Three-Language App
Taobao Malaysia has announced the launch of its 618 Mid-Year Sale, introducing several new features aimed at improving the online shopping experience for Malaysians. The sale, which began on 28 May 2025 and will run until 20 June 2025, coincides with the introduction of a refreshed interface that now supports Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Chinese. This update is designed to make the platform more accessible and user-friendly to a wider range of Malaysian consumers.
The introduction of a tri-lingual interface marks a significant step in Taobao’s efforts to localise its services. Shoppers can now browse and purchase products in their preferred language, reducing language barriers and simplifying the shopping process for non-Chinese speakers in Malaysia. The update is part of Taobao’s ongoing strategy to create a more inclusive and enjoyable shopping experience.
Several new features have been rolled out alongside the language upgrade. Among these is the Image Search function, which allows users to upload a photo or snap a picture of an item to find similar products on the platform. This feature uses artificial intelligence to improve the accuracy and relevance of search results. In addition, a Coins Cashback system has been introduced, where users can complete daily check-in missions and make purchases at selected sellers to earn coin rewards and cashback, with the added benefit of free shipping in some cases.
New users are also being targeted with exclusive perks. First-time shoppers can take advantage of deals starting as low as RMB 1 (approximately RM0.62), encouraging more Malaysians to try the platform. These initiatives are intended to make online shopping both more rewarding and cost-effective for local users.
Beyond its focus on user experience, Taobao Malaysia has a history of supporting local entrepreneurship. In recent years, the platform has collaborated with local state governments and training institutions to launch livestream training programmes. These initiatives have helped over 500 Malaysians become livestreamers and digital entrepreneurs, expanding opportunities for income generation within the local e-commerce ecosystem. These programmes have been particularly beneficial to low-income groups, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The company continues to emphasise its commitment to the local community, aiming to strengthen Malaysia’s e-commerce ecosystem through ongoing investments in platform capabilities and localised services. Taobao Malaysia has also broadened its selection of products, particularly in the fashion and home furniture categories, offering more affordable pricing and air shipping options as fast as five working days.
The 618 Mid-Year Sale features a range of promotions and exclusive deals for Malaysian shoppers. These include free sea shipping on orders above ¥199 (around RM116) with the Coins Cashback incentive, as well as the chance to win air tickets to Seoul through a partnership with RHB Bank. Other highlights include instant payment discounts of up to RM68, promotional codes offering up to 50% off, and daily flash sales with product discounts of up to 15%. These offers are available for a limited time during the duration of the sale.
The campaign is expected to drive significant traffic to the Taobao platform, as shoppers look for savings on items that can enhance their daily lives. The sale is accessible through the Taobao app, which is available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
