Garmin Launches quatix 8 Smartwatch for Mariners in Malaysia
Garmin has introduced the quatix 8, a new smartwatch designed specifically for mariners. The device is available in two sizes, 47mm and 51mm, and features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display, a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, and a titanium bezel. Both models have enhanced durability with leakproof buttons and a sensor guard to protect against harsh environments.
The quatix 8 is built to withstand tough conditions and is tested to U.S. military standards for thermal and shock resistance. It includes an ambient light sensor for improved readability in sunlight and an LED flashlight with multiple light modes, including a red safety light for night vision. The watch is dive-rated up to 40 meters, making it suitable for scuba and apnea activities.
One of the key features of the quatix 8 is its built-in speaker and microphone, allowing users to control compatible Garmin chartplotters through voice commands via Bluetooth. Users can also make and receive phone calls and interact with their phone’s voice assistant when paired with a compatible smartphone. The watch can serve as a remote for Garmin trolling motors and Fusion entertainment systems, and provides information on water depth, speed, heading, and wind. Additional boating and sailing apps are preloaded, offering features such as tide change alerts, anchor drag alerts, tack assist, race start guidance, and a regatta timer.
Battery life is up to 16 days for the 47mm version and 29 days for the 51mm model. The quatix 8 is scheduled to be available from mid-July 2025, with a recommended retail price of RM5,720 for the 47mm model and RM6,240 for the 51mm model. The smartwatch will be available through the Garmin e-store, Shopee, Lazada, and Garmin Brand Stores.
