Apple Launches M5 Chip in 14-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro

Apple-M5-processor

Apple has introduced the new M5 chip, bringing significant advancements in computing power and artificial intelligence capabilities to its lineup. The M5 chip is featured in the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, the updated iPad Pro, and the Apple Vision Pro. This launch marks a new phase in Apple’s approach to on-device AI, as the M5 is built with third-generation 3-nanometer technology and features a next-generation 10-core GPU. Each GPU core includes a dedicated Neural Accelerator, driving up to four times the peak GPU compute performance compared to the previous M4 chip.

In real-world usage, the M5 supports complex AI workloads on device, such as image generation and large language model processing. Graphics performance benefits from a third-generation ray-tracing engine, resulting in up to 45% higher results in apps that utilize ray tracing. The enhanced shading and advanced dynamic caching technologies let users experience smoother visuals in games, creative applications, and 3D projects.

CPU capabilities have seen improvements as well. The M5 includes a 10-core CPU, made up of four performance cores and six efficiency cores. This enables up to 15% faster multithreaded performance over the M4, supporting demanding tasks required by both professionals and everyday users. With the inclusion of an upgraded 16-core Neural Engine, the M5 efficiently handles advanced AI features and public frameworks for model processing at scale.

Memory and system bandwidth also see a major boost, with the M5 delivering nearly 30% more unified memory bandwidth compared to its predecessor, now at 153GB/s. The chip supports configurations with up to 32GB unified memory, allowing users to run multiple high-performance applications, such as creative suites or professional video editors, without lag or efficiency drops.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the M5 chip is available in space black and silver, priced from $1,599. It boasts a Liquid Retina XDR display, a 12MP Center Stage webcam, an immersive six-speaker setup, and a versatile range of ports suitable for modern workflows. The device comes with faster SSD performance, allowing rapid file handling for large projects. With battery life extending up to 24 hours, the MacBook Pro can be used on the move without frequent charging.

The iPad Pro with the M5 chip similarly enjoys faster performance for creative and productivity tasks, with seamless multitasking supported by the latest iPadOS. All M5-equipped devices benefit from enhanced privacy standards and on-device intelligence, thanks to Apple’s secure unified architecture.

The new M5 lineup is available for preorder, with shipments starting October 22.
