Kaspersky warns of online fitness data risks

Kaspersky online fitness data risks

Health and fitness remain a top priority for many people, and the rise of online personal training has made professional coaching more accessible than ever. Social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have fueled this growth, with trainers building global audiences and turning followers into paying clients. The global online fitness market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 30 percent until 2033, showing how quickly this trend is accelerating.

Yet, the convenience of online fitness programs comes with hidden risks. Many clients share sensitive details such as health data, progress photos, and payment information with trainers they may never meet in person. Much of this exchange happens through social media and messaging tools, often without contracts or clear data protection policies. This creates vulnerabilities similar to those already seen in fitness apps, which have faced data breaches in the past.

One area of concern is third-party tools used by trainers for scheduling, payments, and program delivery. If even one of these services lacks proper encryption or suffers a breach, personal data can be exposed. Progress photos also present risks, as they often include personal identifiers and can be misused if accounts are compromised. Trainers themselves are also targets. If their social media accounts are hacked, cybercriminals can impersonate them and trick clients into handing over money or private details.

To reduce these risks, experts advise verifying trainer credentials, avoiding suspicious links, and checking for secure websites before making payments. Clients should avoid oversharing personal information and use encrypted platforms for sensitive content. Reliable security tools such as Kaspersky Premium can also help protect devices against malware, phishing, and fraudulent sites.

As part of its wider mission to promote cyber awareness, Kaspersky has partnered with Mumbai Indians for 2025. The collaboration highlights the shared values of resilience, teamwork, and excellence, while encouraging fans and fitness enthusiasts to stay motivated and protected in their digital and sporting journeys.
