Intel Appoints Craig Barratt to Board of Directors

Intel Corporation has expanded its board of directors with the immediate appointment of Craig Barratt as an independent director. The technology executive brings over 30 years of leadership experience across the semiconductor and technology sectors to the chip manufacturer.
Barratt previously served as chief executive officer of Atheros Communications, a wireless semiconductor technology company. During his tenure, he guided the firm through its initial public offering and subsequent acquisition by Qualcomm in a transaction valued at 3.1 billion dollars. His background also includes senior leadership positions at Intel itself, where he oversaw ethernet, photonics and networking divisions after the company acquired Barefoot Networks, where he had served as chief executive.
The newly appointed director spent part of his career at Google, managing Google Fiber and various broadband and energy projects. Barratt currently holds board positions at Intuitive Surgical and Astera Labs, alongside roles at several private companies. He serves as lead independent director at Intuitive Surgical.
Barratt holds bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering, pure mathematics and physics from the University of Sydney. He completed both master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering at Stanford University. The 63-year-old executive will contribute his semiconductor industry expertise as Intel pursues its strategic objectives and long-term growth initiatives in the competitive technology landscape.
The appointment comes as Intel continues to navigate significant industry challenges and opportunities in the global semiconductor market. Barratt’s extensive experience scaling technology businesses and his direct knowledge of semiconductor operations position him to provide strategic guidance during this period of technological advancement.
